Newport Group Sees Continued Growth of Retirement Plan Business
Three Key Senior Client Services Executives Recently Hired
WALNUT CREEK, CA—October 24, 2016—Newport Group, a leading independent provider of retirement plans, insurance, and consulting services, is pleased to announce the hiring of Shelley Schumacher, Senior Vice President, Client Services and Michele Laffert, Director, Conversions; and that Claire Eyges has rejoined the company as Client Services Director.

Shelley Schumacher will serve as Senior Vice President, Client Services, and be based in Wisconsin. In this role, Ms. Schumacher will be responsible for Newport Group’s client service teams in the Eastern U.S., as well as the company’s Documents and Retirement Consulting teams. She has nearly 30 years of experience in the retirement services industry, and has held senior-level roles with a number of leading companies, including OneAmerica, BMO Retirement Services and Ceridian.
Michele Laffert will serve as Director, Conversions, and be based in the company’s Folsom, CA office. Ms. Laffert will be responsible for overseeing the entire conversions process for Newport Group’s qualified plan clients. She brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services and retirement industries. Most recently, she was a senior relationship manager in Southern California for MassMutual Retirement Services, where she was responsible for managing a broad suite of strategic resources to ensure overall client satisfaction.
Claire Eyges will be rejoining Newport Group to serve as Client Services Director. She will be based in our Walnut Creek, CA headquarters. She will work with Newport Group’s private label clients to ensure their conversion and ongoing service is customized and effective for their business. She has 25 years of experience in the retirement services industry, much of which stems from her work at Newport Group’s legacy organizations, including serving as the single point of contact for new clients during the conversion process. Most recently, Ms. Eyges was with Willis Towers Watson in San Francisco as a Benefits Advisory and Compliance Consultant.
